Healthcare Assistant & Home Carer Jobs in Ireland – General Employment Permit Route

Ireland lets employers hire healthcare assistants and home carers from outside the EEA on a General Employment Permit, at a lower salary threshold than most roles. Many Irish care providers advertise these jobs on the government's JobsIreland.ie; not every employer sponsors, so check each advert.

Who can apply

Non-EEA nationals need a job offer from an Irish employer, who applies for a General Employment Permit. Since 1 March 2026 the minimum salary for healthcare assistants, home carers and care workers is €32,691 a year (the government plans to phase out this lower threshold by 2030). Ask the employer before applying whether they will apply for a permit for you.
