UK closes a teacher route for Ghana, Nigeria and India
Since 9 September 2026, teachers who trained in Ghana, Nigeria or India can no longer use England's "apply for qualified teacher status (QTS)" service. If anyone offers to get you QTS through this service, or asks you to pay to "process" it, treat it as a scam. The change affects this service only, so check GOV.UK for other routes into teaching in England.
Australia plans to stop most students bringing family
On 17 September 2026, Australia's Home Affairs Minister announced that future student and graduate visas will no longer allow partners or children to be added. PhD students are an exception, and families already in Australia are not affected. This is an announced plan, so check the official site before you apply.
UK student visa: you must show more money from 30 November
For UK student visa applications made on or after 30 November 2026, the monthly living-cost amount you must show rises to £1,570 in London (from £1,529) and £1,203 elsewhere (from £1,171). Applications made before 30 November use the old amounts.
